This is a letter written in the field by a soldier to his Father, mother and sisters. He tells of how he is doing and about the war. He regrets that they found out about his wound and tells them about his gunshot in the arm. He also encloses in this letter the fragment of the bullet removed. He tells "that ball went thru two coats and two sherts and mashed up that way agenst the boan i pulled it out my selfe" and speaks of the soreness but doesn't make too much of it. A warm letter of a common young soldier in camp near Richmond. His name is Henry Myers. I don't think he got a purple heart. Back then I believe it was reward enough to make it back home. A piece of American history from an unknown hero. Or maybe you might like to try to look up this person's name and put together his history. An interesting research project. Something nice to do with a son or daughter and learn about our country at the same time. A very rare item indeed.
